Experienced musician and teacher

Do you want to learn to play the guitar, ukulele, or mandolin or improve your playing or develop another style?

Perhaps you want to accompany yourself singing and wish to develop repertoire and improve performance skills.

I am an experienced guitarist, mandolinist, double bassist and vocalist and I teach from my home in Forest Lake Brisbane.
I have had many years of playing solo, and in duos and bands.

I have a Blue card for working with children.  Preferably children should be 8 years of age to commence guitar/ ukulele and should have a suitable instrument of their own.

I teach contemporary guitar styles, including acoustic, rock, jazz, blues and fingerstyle. Students will gain a solid understanding of theory as we go along. I don't teach for exams like AMEB, but do prepare students for performing and arrange yearly student concerts.
Prices are reasonable.
Guitar Lessons:   Lessons for adults and children from 8 years. To intermediate level, on either acoustic or electric guitar. Lessons include learning to read chord charts, tablature, and music notation, and following along with music playing on an audio device eg. You tube. After students have covered basic techniques, we move on to developing improvisational skills and performance skills. This covers contemporary, blues, rock, folk and jazz styles. and fingerstyle guitar. It can also include use of settings on your amp, and use of pedals and loopers.

Mandolin lessons:  I have experience playing mandolin in bluegrass and Celtic bands but also enjoy playing classical pieces on mandolin. I can help with developing good technique and I have a large range of music to select pieces from.

Ukulele lessons:        For adults and children preferably from 8 years old.  Whether you wish to just enjoy strumming along in a group, or developing soloist skills, I can help.  If you are beginning your musical journey, uke can be a bit easier to start on than guitar, and sometimes is a starting off instrument for young children.  A good quality uke from a music shop is the way to go when you are purchasing an instrument. These days there are a good range of quality ukuleles available some with built in pick ups. Techniques learned on uke transfer to guitar if you wish to learn guitar later.
Here is a video of one of my students performing at our student concert. He is using fingerstyle guitar techniques in this song.
